At first, with that striping, almost looks like a Lincoln's, but not brown enuf and not a seed cracking bill. American Pipit!

Beautiful photo! Here's a great exercise with this bird: start at the rear, with the very tip of the tail, and move slowly, slowly to the right until you see the first character that allows you to identify it to family. You'll be surprised at how much more you learn than if you'd just looked at the face and said oh yeah, it's a....
